In Tepic all ahead of the Italian couples
TEPIC (MEXICO)- The Italian couples’ race at the Elite 16 tournament, to be held in Tepic, Mexico, is continuing well. Four out of four Italian teams in the competition actually got access to the knockout phase (three pairs in the round of 16 and one in the quarterfinals), an event never before seen in an elite tournament.
In fact, the tricolor couple formed by Daniele Lupo and Enrico Rossi finished second in Group A and thus qualified for the round of 16 scheduled for the Italian evening.
In the last game of the group, the Italians lost in the tie-break to the Olympic champions Mol/Sorum 2:1 (23:25, 21:17, 15:11), a defeat that did not endanger the round. In fact, thanks to the success in the opening game against Qatari Cherif/Ahmed and subsequent victory in the all-Italian derby against Nicolai-Cottafava, Enrico and Daniele achieved the important goal.
The Blues Paolo Nicolai and Samuele Cottafava also made it to the round of 16. In fact, the Italian couple deservedly defeated the strong Qatar duo Cherif/Ahmed in the last game of Group A 2-0 (21:18, 21:12).
Alex Ranghieri and Adrian Carambula completed the men’s en plain. In fact, the Azzurri achieved their goal in the quarterfinals thanks to the success at the end of a one-sided game against Estonia’s Nolvak/Tiisaar, who won 2-0 (21:16.21 – 11) on Mexican clay. A victory that secured them priority in Group C and thus direct entry into the quarter-finals.
In the women’s draw, a mission that also accomplished the Blues Marta Menegatti and Valentina Gottardi, who, thanks to second place in Pool B, reached the round of 16 of the Mexican Elite 16.
This morning the Italians first beat Canadians Pavan/Bukovec 2-0 (21:12, 23:21), but in the afternoon they were beaten by the strong Dutchman Stam/ 0-2 (16:21, 15:21). . Schoon, couple number 2 in the FIVB ranking.
