Premier Padel Roma: Stupaczuk-Di Nenno are still saved

The No. 2 seeded won again in the third set – they played nearly eight hours into the tournament. Carraro: “Enthusiasts everywhere: It’s an extraordinary message”

Franco Stupaczuk and Martin Di Nenno: this is the premier padel marathon couple in Rome. Three wins of three in three sets, a total of almost eight hours on the court. The number 2 in the seeding list fights, sweats, fights when they are down. But once again they win: in the quarterfinals, it was Capra and Sanchez’s turn to fool themselves and hope to beat the No. 2 seed duo before going empty-handed. In the semifinals, the bar is raised: the opponents are Tapia and Coello, who are seeded in fourth place.

It comes alive in the Foro Italico. Champions get dressed. “I took a photo last night, four fields were being played and there were fans everywhere. I think that’s an extraordinary message that shows how our sport is growing and enjoying it. A photo that rewards the effort of all of us”: the words of Luigi Carraro, President of the International Padel Federation, perfectly summarize the climate that Rome has today. And the anticipation for the final weekend is great: It will be fun. With men and with the best in the world, but also with women.

The presence of the women’s draw is the great novelty of this edition, as Carraro points out: “Until the women’s participation, we would not have been on a real tour. These days I’ve seen her excited. They had discussed the organization of the facility with their male colleagues, but what they experienced went beyond anything. My greatest joy is to see her happy. The vast majority of tournaments in 2023, including Milan, will also feature a women’s draw, and if that’s not all, it’s only for logistical and organizational reasons. From 2024, the year in which we have as homogeneous a calendar as possible, women will always be present.” The first sums are being drawn, but that’s not all: the next 48 hours are all about entertainment.
